Wondering what to do this weekend? Here’s the SG Lifestyle Team’s weekly round-up of FREE WEEKEND ACTIVITES TO DO IN SINGAPORE (well, mostly free) as we try to adapt to a new normal while waiting for the current COVID-19 situation to improve.

This includes a mixture of virtual/digital events/activities you can do at home, as well as physical events/places to visit/attend. Nevertheless, please do your due diligence to do your part to stay safe.

Recommended Advisory Notice: Let’s play our part to Stay Safe during this period:

Wash your hands regularly and properly using soap and water! ⁣⁣

1) Exhibition: Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) 2022 Art Exhibition

Featuring a curated selection of 121 artworks, come visit the onsite exhibition on display. More than 500 student artworks from Secondary, Junior College and Millennia Institute come together in the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) 2022 Art Exhibition to lend a youthful voice to the topic of sustainability.

2) Exhibition: Superfluous Things: Paper

Superfluous Things: Paper is an exhibition with interactive components for the young at heart. This exhibition highlights the work of contemporary artists as storytellers, evoking precious personal and cultural memories, through a long tradition of paper manipulation. The works astound through the transformations of pieces of paper into objects of visual feast and irresistible emotional resonance.

Location: Gallery 2, SAM at Tanjong Pagar Distripark

3) Visit: Asian Civilizations Museum (Embracing Batik Weekend Festival)

Join ACM for a weekend of performances and activities inspired by the wonderful world of batik! From 22-24 July 2022, visit the Embracing Batik Weekend Festival, held in conjunction with the ACM’s latest special exhibition, Batik Kita: Dressing in Port Cities. Enjoy free admission to performances of traditional gamelan music and Indonesian dances, or take part in a variety of batik-related workshops and artmaking activities.

4) Exhibition: Evolving Currents

The works in Evolving Currents are new iterations of long-term research projects developed by the artists. By adopting speculative or interrogative approaches to reading these accounts, the works suggest that interpretations of history constantly evolve in response to shifts in socio-political landscapes. The works invite us to evaluate the significance of these chapters in history and the impact they continue to have on our present-day lived realities.

Location: Jendela (Visual Arts Space)
