5 FREE Activities to do in Singapore this Weekend (12 – 13 June 2021)

Wondering what to do this weekend? Here’s the SG Lifestyle Team’s weekly round-up of FREE WEEKEND ACTIVITES TO DO IN SINGAPORE (well, mostly free) during Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) as we try to adapt to a new normal while waiting for the current COVID-19 situation to improve.

This includes a mixture of virtual/digital events/activities you can do at home, as well as physical events/places to visit/attend. Nevertheless, please do your due diligence to do your part to stay safe.

Recommended Advisory Notice: Let’s play our part to Stay Safe during this period:
Wear a mask and see a doctor promptly if you are sick! ⁣⁣
Wash your hands regularly and properly using soap and water! ⁣⁣

1) Try out: Creme Brulee Recipe

With the recent warm weather, you can definitely do with a classic Creme Brulee. It’s creamy, elegant and refreshing topped with a crispy layer of caramelized crust on top making it a divine treat. Try out this Creme Brulee Recipe by Nino’s Home this weekend.

2) Fun with Kids: Complete Me! Drawing

Wish to keep your kids entertained? Complete the following drawing with them this weekend and watch them express their creativity. You might be amused on what goes on in their minds and how they picture certain items.

3) Virtual Tour: Heritage Trail by National Heritage Board

Keen on an exploration trip to discover Singapore’s diverse culture and history through a collections of objects, images and stories?

Visit www.roots.gov.sg for a trip down the memory lane and discover interesting facts of the past. You can also read stories such as what clans and associations in Singapore do and visit places of interest and guided walks down the heritage trail virtually.

4) Explore: Ang Mo Kio Ave 4 (Instagram Worthy)

Do you remember any of our favourite snacks and candies from the yesteryears? Well, for the elderly, these classic products may spark memories and help them recognise their surroundings. A block in Ang Mo Kio Ave 4 has taken this idea to heart with murals featuring tang yuan, satay, and ang ku kueh. The murals were created by the Alzheimer’s Disease Association (ADA) to enable the elderly and residents with dementia to find their way back home.

These murals are also illustrated strategically on HDB walls with their block numbers so that they can be easily noticed.

Once the Covid-19 outbreak subsides, perhaps you could drop by for a visit too, and check out the unique murals.

5) Virtual Event: Tokyo Real Underground

Look forward to butoh-inspired dance performances, exhibitions, an augmented reality experience and more for free.

An experimental art festival, Tokyo Real Underground is inspired by butoh, an avant-garde performing art that originated in Japan in 1959. The dance form is known for its slow and controlled motions and artists often wear full-body white makeup.

Until August 15, you can enjoy the entire programme online for free, including performances by butoh dance legends and newcomers, as well as experimental works by a wide range of contemporary artists. To watch, just register your email address on the official website and click the link to the online portal page sent to you via email.

We hope you enjoy this week’s round-up of weekend activities to do in Singapore FOR FREE!

More importantly – stay safe and don’t say we NEVER share!
