5 FREE Activities to do in Singapore this Weekend (31 July – 1 August 2021)

Wondering what to do this weekend? Here’s the SG Lifestyle Team’s weekly round-up of FREE WEEKEND ACTIVITES TO DO IN SINGAPORE (well, mostly free) during Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) as we try to adapt to a new normal while waiting for the current COVID-19 situation to improve.

This includes a mixture of virtual/digital events/activities you can do at home, as well as physical events/places to visit/attend. Nevertheless, please do your due diligence to do your part to stay safe.

Recommended Advisory Notice: Let’s play our part to Stay Safe during this period:
Wear a mask and see a doctor promptly if you are sick! ⁣⁣
Wash your hands regularly and properly using soap and water! ⁣⁣

1) Try out: Castella Creme Caramel Recipe | Emojoie

Follow this recipe to make your very own Castella Cake. The sweetness is not overpowering and is a soft and tasty treat that you can share with your family this weekend.

2) Workout to Fitness: The Greater Singapore Workout

Since we are in the month of National Day, how can we not celebrate it by revisiting The Great Singapore Workout that we all did since our school days? We believe you still can vividly remember the movement (especially the Toilet Flush). Get fit and ready for the celebrations this weekend by completing this workout with us.

3) Contest: SPOT AND WIN $10! by Our Tampines Hub

Do you know that OTH is Singapore’s first integrated lifestyle hub and was born out of the ideas of thousands of residents? Join a contest this weekend by taking a selfie photo with this cardboard sculpture at OTH and mention the name of the mascot in the comment section of the Facebook post. Like and share the post to qualify!
5 lucky winners will stand a chance to win $10 Festive Mall F&B Voucher each! Contest ends on 1 Aug 2021 at 2359hrs.

4) Play: Google Doodle – Tokyo Olympics

Play this extremely addictive game with a retro feel as the Tokyo Olympics are underway. Just visit Google search engine’s top page right now you’ll see a picture of a cat dressed in a ninja outfit standing on top of a torii gate.

As the character Lucky, you could compete in the Champion Island Games, a gathering of the world’s best athletes that occurs every four years! As the animated sequence comes to a close, the reason for the Doodle’s pixel art becomes clear, as the visual style changes and you’re dropped into an RPG-style overworld!

It’s really impressive how committed the designers were to both making an enjoyable and visually appealing game and also to opening a window into Japanese culture. Try it this weekend and remember to support Team Singapore’s contingent of 23 athletes who are competing in a record of 12 sports.

5) Exhibition: SAM Mini Mobile Museum: Slander!

Discover more about Singapore’s film industry at this exhibition. For a blast to the movie past, the fourth edition of SAM Mini Mobile Museum is taking on three public libraries with Slander! by multidisciplinary artist Jeremy Sharma. It is coming to Jurong and Tampines regional libraries starting from July 28 and September 15 respectively.

Titled after the 1959 film Korban Fitnah (Victims of Slander), the exhibition invites movie buffs to rediscover the films produced between 1958 and 1963 – which is the period sandwiched between the post-war heyday of Singapore’s film industry and Singapore’s independence day – through a choreography of film footages, digitised images, text, objects, and printed matter. It also features themes that recur in the artist’s practice – the modernist notions of shape, size, scale, seriality, and repetition.

Admission is free for all. More information available HERE.

Address: 21 Jurong East Central 1 Singapore 609732

We hope you enjoy this week’s round-up of weekend activities to do in Singapore FOR FREE!
