Japanese Tsumami-zaiku Craft Therapy Workshop

Crafting with Purpose: My Journey at the Japanese Tsumami-zaiku Craft Therapy Workshop

I recently had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Japanese Tsumami-zaiku Craft Therapy workshop by Active Hive x Palette Japan in Singapore, and it was nothing short of inspiring. This hands-on session combined creativity with sustainability, and I’m excited to share my experience—especially how I crafted a beautiful hairpin that doubles as a brooch!

The Creative Process

From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere was buzzing with creativity and enthusiasm. The environment was so zen with soft music in the background…

Guided by the talented Ms. Agnes (Master trainer), we were introduced to the various materials we could work with.  Ms. Agnes’s passion for craft was infectious, and her expert guidance helped to ignite my own creative spark.

As I began to piece together my hairpin-brooch hybrid, I felt empowered by the freedom to explore my ideas. Honestly, I was someone who do not have a high level of patience when it comes to crafting, but ironically I surprised myself during the process. I actually enjoyed it!

A Lesson in Upcycling

With Ms Agnes’s guidance, I realized that crafting isn’t just about making something new; it’s about honoring materials and giving them a second life.

The Final Touches

As I added the finishing touches to my hairpin-brooch, I felt a deep sense of satisfaction. It wasn’t just about the end product; it was the journey and the skills I had acquired along the way. The ability to create something beautiful out of materials that deserve a second life.

A Community of Crafters

It was an interesting range of participants as the workshop I attended had a young girl who is as young as 8 years old! Crafting truly has no boundaries.

Final Thoughts

Attending the Japanese Tsumami-zaiku Craft Therapy workshop was an eye-opening experience. As I had a second event to attend to in the evening, I actually wore my masterpiece straightaway and received compliments about it! (And I was so proud to be able to say ”I made it myself”! Hahaha)

If you’re looking for a meaningful way to express your creativity and enjoying a zen experience of making your own masterpiece , I highly recommend joining a workshop like this. It’s a wonderful way to unwind, connect with others, and explore the beauty of upcycling as well! (And also a good gift idea!)
