An Evening of Culinary Delights: Exploring NTUC FairPrice’s Latest Festive Food Innovations This CNY 2025

I had the pleasure of attending a delightful dinner hosted by NTUC FairPrice recently, where they showcased a variety of their newest food products. The evening was filled with delectable dishes, a warm and festive atmosphere, and the chance to try some truly innovative food items. Here’s a recap of what was an unforgettable culinary experience.

A Warm Welcome and a Festive Ambience

Upon arriving at the event, I was greeted by my host, who was full of warmth and hospitality. The venue was decked out with festive decorations, creating a cosy and welcoming environment. There was an impressive spread of food, both ready to eat and ready to be cooked, giving me the perfect introduction to what NTUC FairPrice had to offer.

Lou Hei to Start: A Sweet and Healthy Prosperity Yu Sheng

The evening began with the iconic lou hei (Prosperity Yu Sheng) – a dish that has become a mandatory part of the festive season. For me, this was likely the last lou hei of 2024, and NTUC FairPrice certainly did not disappoint. The generous portion of fresh sashimi and crisp vegetables immediately stood out. What impressed me most was how this dish managed to satisfy my sweet tooth without being overwhelmingly sugary. The balance of sweetness and freshness made it feel healthy too! At just $39.80, the Prosperity Yu Sheng easily served six people, with plenty left over after our second helping.

A Refreshing Drink: Chandon Garden Spritz

To complement the lou hei, my host offered me a cup of Chandon Garden Spritz. As someone who usually finds wine too strong for my taste, I was pleasantly surprised by how light and refreshing it was. The blend of fizzy drink and a touch of wine created a crisp and enjoyable drink. At only $39.36, this is definitely a great value for anyone looking for a tasty, easy-drinking option for the festive season.

Chilli Crab: A Dream for Crab Lovers

Next up was the dish that completely stole my heart – Chilli Crab. Now, anyone who has ever tackled a crab knows the pain of peeling off those pesky shells, especially the ones on crab legs. But NTUC FairPrice has come up with a game-changer: Seaco Pre-Peeled Snow Crab Claws and Legs. Imagine digging into crab without the hassle of shelling it yourself! Paired with Golden Chef Chilli Crab Sauce and Man Tou, this dish was an absolute delight. I couldn’t stop myself after devouring two crab pincers and two legs, but I had to stop to save room for more. At just $26.90, this product is a steal – be sure to order when it becomes available, as it’s bound to sell out quickly!

Shrimp Balls: The Lychee-Lookalike Surprise

Then came a dish that caught me off guard in the best possible way: EB Kranch Crispy Shrimp Balls. These shrimp balls looked deceptively like lychees but had a satisfying crunch when you bit into them. The outer shell was crispy, and the chewy shrimp filling inside was absolutely divine. With a price tag of just $6.50, these shrimp balls are incredibly easy to prepare – simply air fry them, and they’re ready to enjoy. I could easily see myself munching on these while watching Netflix, and I couldn’t resist going back for seconds (and thirds!).

A Savory Soup with Assorted Shrimp Paste Dumplings

Following the shrimp balls, we were treated to a flavorful bowl of soup. It contained vegetables and assorted dumplings all served in a clear chicken broth. You can pick up any of these Emerald Frozen Shrimp Paste available on these flavours: Ebiko / Original / Cod / Truffle priced between $4.90 to $4.95 to make your own similar dumplings for CNY!

Pinsi Fortune Poon Choi: A Feast for the Senses

Next came the Pinsi Fortune Poon Choi, a luxurious dish served in a large clay pot filled with abalone, fish maw, mushrooms, cabbage, and more. The sight of this feast had us eagerly reaching for our phones to snap pictures before diving in. The abalone was chewy and flavorful, the mushrooms and scallops were huge and delicious, and the broth was heavenly. For just $98.80, this Poon Choi is a must-have for your reunion dinner and a truly festive treat!

Claypot Rice Without the Rice: A Unique Twist

We were then served a massive claypot that, at first glance, seemed to be missing the usual rice. Instead, the pot was filled with a bounty of meat, mushrooms, abalone, and scallops, leaving the rice completely hidden. As someone who’s not a huge fan of rice, this was perfect for me! The star of the dish was the scallop – I’ve never seen one so large! It was tender, chewy, and packed with flavor. At $29.50 for Seaco Canada Scallops (400g) and $19.90 for Kinohitmitsu Braised Abalone, these are must-try items for seafood lovers.

A Sweet Finish: Golden Orange Custard Tart

As the evening drew to a close, we were treated to a sweet and refreshing dessert – Golden Orange Custard Tarts made with Pasar’s Hong Mei Ren Orange juice and pulp. The tarts, shaped like little wooden pails, were bursting with the perfect level of sweetness. The Hong Mei Ren oranges provided a delightful “pop” when biting into their pulp, adding a unique twist to the custard. With Hong Mei Ren oranges retailing for $20.95, this is an easy-to-make dessert that will impress your guests.

A Generous Parting Gift

To wrap up the evening, NTUC FairPrice generously gifted us with a bag full of goodies, including Fragrance Disney Mickey Bak Kwa, cashew nuts, Kinohimitsu Abalone, and Souper Tang broth. I can’t wait to try these delicious treats at home – what a wonderful way to kick off 2025!
