5) Visit: Not Mere Spectators: The Makings of Multicultural Singapore
“Not Mere Spectators: The Makings of Multicultural Singapore,” presented by Founders’ Memorial Singapore as part of SG60, transports visitors to 1950s–1970s Singapore—a pivotal era when multiculturalism was actively shaped through government policies, community initiatives, and everyday interactions. Set in the historic City Hall Chamber, the exhibition offers an engaging, interactive experience that rekindles the spirit of unity and shared identity that defined Singapore’s early nation-building years. Through immersive installations, motion-sensor dance projections, and reflective conversation pieces, visitors are encouraged to connect the aspirations of Singapore’s founding generation with contemporary experiences, and to consider what it truly means to live and thrive in a multicultural society today.
