Wondering what to do this weekend? Here’s the SG Lifestyle Team’s weekly round-up of FREE WEEKEND ACTIVITES TO DO IN SINGAPORE (well, mostly free) as we try to adapt to a new normal while waiting for the current COVID-19 situation to improve.

This includes a mixture of virtual/digital events/activities you can do at home, as well as physical events/places to visit/attend. Nevertheless, please do your due diligence to do your part to stay safe.

1) Visit: Singapore Design Week 2022

Singapore Design Week (SDW) returns 16 – 25 September 2022 with a brand new vision to explore design through three defining festival pillars: Design Futures, Design Marketplace and Design Impact. Take a look at the festival guide to be updated and participate in the events of your interest this weekend!

2) Visit: Art Encounters by Art Outreach

Visit this pop-up art exhibition to enjoy the cascading paper installation and site-specific wall mural, alongside rarely-seen drawings and sculptural objects by local artist Ashley Yeo and younger visitors get to try their hands at decorative paper cutting and make their own candle holders and paper decals at the educational activity station.

Time: 11am to 9 pm daily


3) Visit: This Little Red Dot… Showcase

Spot the red dot in each of the illustrations at Singapore Art Museum at Tanjong Pagar Distripark from 12 Sep to 9 Oct. Admission is free!


4) Visit: Bishan Artisans’ Exhibition 2022 @ Bishan CC

For the exhibition, embark on a journey with rare vintage film cameras. Some cameras are close to 100 years old and photos taken with them will be showcased. Exhibiting photographers will also share interesting stories about their vintage cameras. In addition to this, a special mystery guest will also be showcasing his camera and photos in this exhibition.


5) Visit: Batik Kita: Dressing in Port Cities

Batik Kita: Dressing in Port Cities explores the rich history and culture of batik and batik making, from its traditional roots to contemporary designs. Step into the exquisite world of batik textiles that cut across cultures and ethnic backgrounds, and explore the dynamic possibilities of batik as fashion through the years. The exhibition also introduces innovations by batikers in the age-old craft, and showcases how batik charted the evolution of new identities from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore.
