5) Watch: Screening: Tan Dun Martial Arts Trilogy 谭盾音乐会《武侠三部曲 #SupportLocalSG

The Tan Dun Martial Arts Trilogy comprises a trio of concertos: the violin concerto Hero, the cello concerto Crouching Tiger, and the piano concerto The Banquet. Martial Arts Trilogy features Tan Dun’s compositions for three films in which the female protagonists sacrifice their love and life for different reasons: The character Jade, in Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, gave her life for her love of the wuxia dream. In Feng Xiaogang’s The Banquet, Qing Nü traded life and love for desire and revenge, while in Zhang Yimou’s Hero, the character Snow sacrificed herself for her beloved country. Originally presented at Huayi – Chinese Festival of Arts 华艺节 2012. Premieres on 16 Jul, Thu, 7:30pm. Available on Esplanade Offstage until 31 Jul 2020.

8) Read for Books Charity Drive #SupportLocalSG

Read for Books is a charity book drive with the intention of raising awareness of reading and share the gift of reading with the less privileged. From 11 to 26 July 2020, for every 10 people who read for 15 minutes, one book will be donated to selected beneficiaries

How to participate in Read for Books:

Step 1: Register your interest by submitting the registration forms HERE
Step 2: Read for 15 minutes at your own space from 11 to 26 July 2020, or join one of the Zoom Read Together sessions organised by NLB at https://go.gov.sg/zoomreadtogether
Step 3: Take 1 to 2 photos or screengrabs of the activity.
Step 4: Upon completion of the activity, please email read@nlb.gov.sg with the number of participants and photos taken.
NOTE: Please note that all updates must be completed by 31 July 2020 (Friday), 11.59pm.

9) Listen: Jazz in July #SupportLocalSG

Dynamics of the duet are laid bare at this year’s Jazz in July, exploring the sensitivities, openness and trust of musical friendships. Look forward to 24 unique pairings of 43 jazz artists that call Singapore home, ranging from fresh Mosaic Jazz Fellows alumni to esteemed jazz stalwarts. This is the first time we are presenting live performances—albeit without audiences at the venue—since Esplanade was closed in April. The performances will be livestreamed on Esplanade Offstage and Esplanade’s Facebook page daily from 8 – 31 July 2020 at 8pm.
